Campout -- Katy Trail -- 20 Mile Bike Ride

2 night campout
September 23 - 25, 2005
New Franklin, MO

When and where to meet:
At the Lenexa United Methodist Church, Friday evening, Sep 23th at 5:30pm. We will load up the camping supplies and leave around 6:00pm. We will stop at McDonald’s on the way for dinner.

UPDATE:  Cost of Bike Rental is actually $25, not $20 as originally announced

What to bring:
1. Your personal items (see "Personal Equipment" section of Trail Tips (pdf) for list).
2. Boy Scout Handbook!
3. Patrols' food, camping supplies and tents.
4. A Campout Permission Slip signed by a parent.
5. Class "A" Uniform for Advancement.
6. Money for McDonald's on the way
7. $25 for Bicycle Rental (You can use your own bike - the troop will try to provide a trailer for the scouts to load their bikes on)
8. $6 per person for camping fees ($3 per night)
9. A bicycle helmet

Those taking the Hiking Merit Badge need to also bring:

  • A small day pack (a school backpack will work) to carry the following:

    • Extra Clothing (extra socks, sweatshirt if it gets cool or starts cool, hat, shorts if you start in long pants)

    • Rain Gear

    • Water Bottle (at least 2 Liters total could be two bottles or Camel
      Backpack)

    • Trail Food (breakfast such as Pop-Tarts and juice, and snack such as Trail Mix)

    • Sun Protection

    • Map and Compass (Map will be provided and compass is optional)

    • Also, bring $10 for a burger lunch at the half-way point (it will be less than $10 but I am not sure how much)

  • Optional Items:

    • First Aid Kit

    • Flashlight

    • Pocketknife

    • Matches and Fire Starters
